DRUMPHONICS
“You can say it, you can play it”
Drumphonics is a simple, human way to learn rhythm by speaking it, feeling it, and then playing it. Instead of starting with abstract counting, students connect to the sound and motion of the groove first.
1. The “Say & Play” System
Set complex sheet music aside for now. We use Onomatopoeia. Simply say the word that sounds like the drum action.
BOOM
The Bass Drum
The heartbeat of the kit.
TAT
The Snare Drum
The crack of the backbeat.

The steady timekeeper.
COMBINE THEM TO MAKE GROOVES
Combine the original drum syllables to create new single-word sounds that match what you play together.
2. Master Timing with Fruit

Meet Tonya Lee
Jaynes
Tonya is a burn survivor who turned tragedy into triumph. At age 16, she used drumming to recover her coordination and learn to walk again — proving rhythm’s power to heal.
She created Drumphonics™ to prove that anyone — regardless of age or ability — can play the drums. Her method bridges spoken language and rhythm, making music education accessible to all.
