ABOUT TONYA LEE JAYNES

Tonya Jaynes is a lifelong drummer, educator, and creator of DRUMPHONICS™—a rhythm-first method designed to help students experience music naturally, confidently, and without pressure.

A Different Way to Learn Rhythm

DrumPhonics begins with feel — not counting.

Instead of starting with rules and notation, students are guided to experience rhythm physically and naturally, the way music is meant to be learned.

This approach removes pressure, builds confidence, and allows each student to connect with rhythm before being asked to analyze it.

From that foundation, understanding grows easily — and music becomes something lived, not feared.

HOW THE METHOD COMES TO LIFE

DrumPhonics uses sound, movement, and repetition to make rhythm feel immediate and accessible.

Students learn through spoken rhythm patterns, physical coordination, and simple musical phrases that can be felt before they are explained.

This creates a natural bridge between instinct and understanding — helping beginners feel successful early while giving more experienced students a deeper internal connection to time, groove, and musical expression.

It is not about rushing toward performance. It is about building a real foundation that lasts.
